Kid slams cat tail in door

There is no obvious break and no blood. He is holding his tail upright. The only thing that concerns me is that one, I know it hurt like Hell given his reaction, and two, as he was walking away I noticed what appeared to be a kink in it near where it would normally hook.

i caught my cats tail in the door!!!?

He won't come out for me to feel it just yet, but when he does, if there is a break near the hook, will it be noticeable to a relative layperson by palpitation?

I do have a lot of experience with animals, cats included, but not with this. Comments from original poster 10 Comments from original poster 10 Load more 3 Comment advertisement Comments 31 BabyCenter may earn a commission from shopping links.

I hope your kitty is okay! Whether a lay person thinks his tail is broken, he's gonna need some medical attention anyway right? Some pain meds or something? He will, he's a Dr. Pol type, but he's in his sixties and already works six days a week and I don't want to call him after hours unless I truly need to.

I can take him in tomorrow though, but I'm just nervous now. You know, sick to your stomach kind of nervous. I feel so terrible. Pretty sure it had been broken and not fixed. You should take him in, just wanted you to know it's not the worst thing and he lived a long life. It was pretty obvious it has been broken you could feel it.

The only way I think you'll be able to tell is to feel it. We just plain haven't had him that long.

He's only started being truly sociable in the last week. I know he has a pronounced hook and that he carries it that way normally, what I don't know is if the kink I saw afterwards is his hook and I am over-reacting when I usually don't but I feel sooo damn guilty or if it's a real break?

And he still won't come out. Oh, and TBH, I'm not even sure where the door got his tail, because I was in such a hurry to open it I didn't have time to really observe it. Even though our house is in the middle of nowhere, I would have the option of driving about 40 minutes or so to an emergency animal clinic in the city.Let friends in your social network know what you are reading about. Post to Facebook.I'm so freaked out right now I feel sooo bad for him. I"m about to cry right now. I tried to touch his tail but he pushed my hand away with his paw. He's trying to sleep right now and closing his eyes. I feel so bad for the pain he has to go through if it's broken. I'm sooo scared. Are cat tails sensitive? What would the vet do if it is broken?

Give him a cast? I'm seriously soo upset right now If he's sleeping soundly, he is probably OK. Is the tail obviously broken or does it still look straight? If he only pushed you away with a paw, he probably isn't any worse for the wear. If he were crying, screaming, hissing, etc. I would say get him to an emergency vet immediately but it doesn't sound like that's the case.

Keep an eye on him tonight and if he seems to be in pain, call the vet first thing in the morning. Either way, you may want to call the vet regardless to see if there is anything that they recommend.

No one but a veterinarian can diagnose the extent of the injury - which could be anything from bruises to broken. Your cat knows you did not mean to hurt him. The best way to make it up to him is to contact your veterinarian. Your vet will guide you in evaluating the symptoms and severity of the injury, and help you to know if he needs to be seen by the vet.

When my cat got her tail dislocated we never figured out what happened, she just came home with her tail flopped over about half way upthe vet gave her a cortesone shot at first. After that, she had us wait for a few days to see if that helped. It did not. The vet then told us it would be best to have the broken part of the tail amputated, because it would just dry up and fall off on its own, leaving her spinal column open for infection.

It was not a terribly expensive operation cost less than repairing an umbilical hernia, which had to be done for another cat. I hope that does not upset you - do please remember that this is the worst case scenario, and in reality, it is not too bad. If there are no visible injuries, there may only be bruising.

I'm sure it does hurt somewhat. But as for giving the cat pain medication, please remember that you cannot give your cat human, over the counter medications - at least not without specific instructions about what is safe, and the proper dosage from your veterinarian. Some common OTC meds are toxic to cats and cannot be used at all, and others are that are safe must be given in very careful, precise amounts or the cat will be dangerously overdosed.

You should take him to the vet so the vet can check his tail bones and the such. My husband's cat when we were dating many moons ago got his tail shut in a door, and the next he seemed fine. Less than a month or so later though, I went to pet the cat's tail and the skin just slipped off like a rotten banana peel in my hand. Leaving the bone and tissue under the skin exposed.

It freaked me out, we rushed the cat to the vet of course. The vet said the tail had been broken, and the skin thus died and rotted then slid off once it was ready The cat could have got blood poisoning and died though before we ever knew something was wrong stated the vet so kitty was lucky all he lost was his tail.Your cat's tail can tell you about what's going on inside her head.

Tails are good indicators of mood. Position: high.

When your cat holds her tail high in the air as she moves about her territory, she's expressing confidence and contentment. A tail that sticks straight up signals happiness and a willingness to be friendly.

And watch the tip of an erect tail. A little twitch can mean a particularly happy moment. Position: curved like a question mark.

I slammed my cat's tail in the door, how to tell if it's broke?

You might consider taking a break from your daily business to play with your cat if you notice a curve in her tail. This tail position often signals a playful mood and a cat that's ready to share some fun with you.

Position: low. Watch out. A tail positioned straight down can signal aggression. A lower tail is a very serious mood. However, be aware that certain breeds, such as Persians, tend to carry their tails low for no particular reason. Position: tucked away. A tail curved beneath the body signals fear or submission.

Something is making your cat nervous. Position: puffed up. A tail resembling a pipe cleaner reflects a severely agitated and frightened cat trying to look bigger to ward off danger.

Position: whipping tail. A tail that slaps back and forth rapidly indicates both fear and aggression. Consider it a warning to stay away. Position: swishing tail. A tail that sways slowly from side to side usually means your cat is focused on an object.

You might see this tail position right before your cat pounces on a toy or a kibble, of cat food that's tumbled outside the food bowl.Forum Rules. Remember Me? Blogs Advanced Search. Page 12 of 14 First Thread: Homeowner slams cop for shooting tail-wagging dog.

Either way, the cop screwed up, tried to lie, and got caught by the video.I feel so bad but I just poushed it shut and it closed a little on his tail.

The door didn't shut all the way! He is sleeping now like always but won't let me touch the tail. The hair is missing and part of the skin looks bruised.

I feel so bad but he seems ok and is acting normal Please help. Sorry I meant I just pushed the door closed so I could use the restroom and he sprinted past me! Well, if you didn't slam it too hard then it may be just badly bruised but will heal in time. But if it was hard, your cat acts offensive when you try to touch the tail, or the tail looks crooked or not how it should in any way then it could possibly be broken.

As long as he can still lift his tail beyond the part that got caught in the door, he should be fine in a day or two. If the tail is limp from that point on it could be broken, or sprained. My cat broke his tail a few months ago, I brought him to the vet, she she a squeeze test on his tail to see if the nerves were damaged, sounds harsh but she basically took a pair of needle nose pliers and pinched the tip of his tail to see if he felt it.

He did, so there was no nerve damage. She said without nerve damage the treatment is the same whether the tail is broken or sprained, they sometimes wrap it, but most often that's not required.

If he had nerve damage they would have considered amputation because he would not have been able to lift his tail and you can imagine how messy that could be when talking in litter box terms. Some cats with badly broken tails and nerve damage end up with spine damage as well because it's all attached consequently bladder control problems, inability to walk etcbut I'm sure your cat will be fine. It doesn't sound too bad if he's sleeping.

Give him a day. If it is still painful, you may need to take him to the vet. My grandmother shut her cat's tail in the door and did not take him to the vet. The end of his tail actually fell off this was back in the 60's, on a farm.

You should probably take him to the vet anyway if he seems to be in pain still, but if the injury is bleeding or very swollen, and if he can't seem to bend the bit of his tail past the bit that was hurt or he can't feel the tip of his tailthen it's more likely that one of his bones is broken.

If you think you broke a bone, I guess you should definitely take him to the vet. I did that accidentally as well. It broke the very tip of his tail, too far down to splint. It healed on its own but was always a little crooked. I was the one who felt the worse Take your cat in the present day to the closest humane society and tell them you haven't any longer have been given the money to take her to the vet and that i'm getting the impression your are asserting that your mom desires to do away along with her.

The cat is maximum ordinarily in an stunning style of affliction and this ought to be taken care of in the present day.My female cat is nearly 5 years old and still carries on like when she was a kitten. She still has "crazy attacks" and chases her tail every day! She's also very scared - she is extremely nervy and jumps whenever anyone comes near her. It's like she takes a minute to recognise you every time she sees you every day.

I love her so much She is really funny. Because she acts so crazy and startled every single day over little things. We have the best cuddles, though - she is so affectionate, trusts me and follows me all the time for a snuggle.

She's also very talkative. A total baby :. My relatives who know autistic people have said my cat acts like autistic. Because she doesn't seem to remember stuff and acts like every experience is new. And she is so scared of anyone but me. What do autistic cats act like? I always knew my cat was a weirdo but she's so super loving that I thought she was OK.

Well I was reading some articles about this subject which I find very interesting and this is what I found on catchow. This is an interesting question. Cats are rarely born with problems that resemble the human equivalent of a mental handicap. Any handicap that would prevent a cat from being able to feed itself would eventually lead to its death from inadequate food intake. Cats can develop signs of mental dysfunction secondary to other illness, however.

A common example is with a congenital present at birth liver disease called a portosystemic shunt. This condition causes blood from the intestinal tract to bypass the liver, avoiding detoxification. The toxins in the blood affect the brain, causing the cat to show signs of mental impairment, such as mental dullness, drooling, blindness and seizures.
